Olympics 2016.
Winners, non-winners (okay losers!), allegations, achievements, excitement, disappointment and a lot of great stories. Ta-daaaa, Olympics 2016!
Got to love some of the verbal blunders:
“I owe a lot to my parents,
especially my mother and father.”
Oh, those parents!
“Sure, there have been injuries,
and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious.”
I’ll opt for a non-serious death please.
“He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn’t like it.
In fact you can see it all over their faces.” ( basketball eh?)
Ewwww!
“If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again.”
Wow, you’re sure about that?
But honestly, we all make mistakes, we misspeak and it’s a good reason to laugh at ourselves.
In the midst of training our young Golden Retriever, Barnabas, I mentioned to our kids that it was important for him to realize that I am the Alpha Male in our family and he needs to listen to me. At that precise moment, Barnabas reached his paw up and smacked me in the face.
Years later, whenever Barnabas does something he’s not supposed to (a quite common occurrence) someone will say, “it’s a good thing Dad is the Alpha male”. Yes, I laugh about it, mostly.
Yes, it’s important to do a seriously great job at what we do, but it also says a lot to friends, family and business associates if we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Lighten up!
